Why we should PRESCRIBE mountain biking and outdoor recreation

Every year, mental and physical health as a whole seem to look worse and worse-at least here in the USA. Sitting in front of a smartphone or TV might allow you to relax, but it's not good for your body. Going to the gym is great for your body, but you need to force yourself to go there. Kudos if you can.
Us mountain bikers know of an activity that's fun, healthy, and so addictive we'll willingly bust our asses to do so. If you're a hiker, a rock climber, a kayaker, or another variety of outdoor enthusiast you'll know what I'm talking about!

One of your best videos ever! It might not have been mountain biking, because my life was too busy to find the time, but running was instrumental in helping me through my awful divorce. I actually prefer mountain biking, but running was so quick and easy to do. Shorts, shoes, head out the front door! It was the worst three years of my life by a massive margin, Exercise was key to mental health.

More so relevant during COVID lockdowns etc where people's mental health is suffering to a larger degree. Time to revisit this subject with a new upload about it.

This weekend was supposed to be a “Stress Relief” weekend. Riding three different trail systems in two days, including back in my hometown for the first time in many years. But on the way out of town I got into a car crash, totaled my van, flipped the truck I hit. Everyone is okay, my wrist is a bit banged up, but my head is all fucked up now. I could really use a ride on my local trail today...but it’s raining. Looking forward to when I can get out in the trails again.

I am realy looking forward to the next days and a lot of riding. And my new Hardtail. I am so close to getting it. Mountain Biking is such a relief. Or cycling in General. It doesnt matter if i am on my Fully jumping gaps, or if i am on a Bike with no suspension cruising thru the streets. Its so relaxing feeling the bike under me and feeling the direct response and control. I am so happy that i found seths channel. He got me into mountain biking. Even tho i mostly ride street obstacles i love doing tricks on my bike. Love to all of you riders. Enjoy your bikes and the time you have with them ❤

"your family might view mountain biking as a needlessly risky activity" lol my parents were pushing for me to go mountain biking because I spend too much time at my computer gaming, doing homework, etc. actually I feel like I'm almost defying your points just by existing, because mountain biking can't replace my meds. in fact if I were to try to replace my meds with mountain biking, it would be a safety hazard while i'm on the trail because I'm ADHD and would just go stupid dangerous fast over stuff that isn't meant to be gone over fast on.

I can confirm this. I have severe social anxiety and riding really helps me cool off when i'm about to have a panic attack or when i'm just stressed in general. I just lose all of the stress within seconds, as I focus on the ride instead. It's the reason I ride my bike to work everyday instead of driving there by car. All the thoughts about losing control or being overwhelmed by the fear and dread completely disappear. Pair that with a nice setting and a great view, and I can end my day a lot more relaxed than usual. I'm serious, if I hadn't discovered mountainbiking, i'd be a serious mental wreck in need of therapy now. Even if you don't have a crazy $3000 bike that can hit the highest jumps no problem, just take two or three hours off your free time to take your bike to the nearest forest or hill and just ride. Even if you're not an adrenaline junkie or a speed demon, It really helps. Get out there and see for yourself. There is a 0% chance it will make you feel worse than straight up staying at home, and i'm willing to bet there's a 100% chance of you feeling better afterwards. If you're depressed and don't have the motivation, force yourself to do it. Please do. You'll see for yourself.

I have to agree with this video. I work at a grocery store, so I am one of many people having to work extra hours to keep up with the pandemic and demanding customers who need us now more than ever. More so, I am a department manager, so there's even more stress there. My biggest issue wasn't just the work load, constant fatigue, or the stress, but missing my family because I haven't been able to see them as much. My wife and I have been talking about getting bikes for years, and we finally decided to do it as we had some extra cash. I've always leaned towards mountain bikes, so I bought one, and she got a cruiser. We also got a trailer to haul our 2 kids. Now, we can all go out as a family as time permits and have fun together. Also, my wife has been supportive of me wanting to go out by myself. Trails aren't open yet, so I've been riding around some neighborhoods, but I have noticed a huge change in my attitude. I'm not as tired, and I'm less stressed. Work even seems to be easier to handle. I've grown up playing music, and that has always been another release of mine, but getting on my bike recently has helped me in ways I couldn't have imagined.
